 Applied Nutricion


Applied Nutrition aims to the general promotion of nutrition I&D activities linked to chronic diseases, in particular those defined as priorities in the national health plan.

I&D projects have been developed in this area to evaluate the dietary habits of specific population groups of the Portuguese population and relate them with the emergence of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer,  rheumatism, among others.

The nutritional status of various population groups is another priority of this scientific area as well the deficit assessment and intake of various nutrients in the body.

In terms of strategic orientation this issue forms part of a plan that aims to develop I&D projects that allow to relate scientific areas essential for the Department of food and nutrition, as being, nutrition, biochemistry of food, epidemiology and health.
